So I will admit that when I first got into magic about 15 years ago I got all my magic from peer to peer services. While I knew it was wrong I did not realize the impact it could have on the creators. I assumed like the music companies they were making millions. This is not why I write this, but actually to ask you a few questions on the ethics of certain situations.
I have a few scenarios I would like to run by a few of you and get your input on the ethical situation of each one.
1. You purchase the actual copy of a DVD or Book and either photocopy it so you can read it via your tablet or burn it for a backup copy. Is it okay to make copy’s of items you purchase for either safe keeping or for easier use of the material?
2. You have those copies and your original is either lost or stolen. Should you delete or destroy those items you have copied since you no longer own the original copy, or is it okay to keep those since you did at one point purchase them. (this is not asking about if you give away or sell your copy)
3. It is okay to download an item, because you can not afford it at present time, but you are going to purchase it very soon?
4. If I did purchase a set of magic DVDs or a magic book and they were stolen is it okay for me to seek those items out and then download them, since I did purchase it but was unfortunate enough to have them taken away?
These are just a few questions that I find interesting to think about when talking about the subject of piracy. Please give me your thoughts and answers and many some more seriousness that you think of on this top in the comment section below. I look forward to reading them!
